His parents were Pieter Vermeer and Maria van der Wal.1 Jan Hendrik Vermeer was a ship's officer in 1914, and in 1920 a steamship superintendant.3,4 Johan Vermeer and Alida Vermeer immigrated on the Nieuw Amsterdam, from Rotterdam, arriving in New York on 12 Jan 1914. Their last residence was Rotterdam. Their contact in Holland is his father P. Vermeer, Alexanderkade 7, Amsterdam. They were going to New York, their contact is the Holland America Line, 21-24 State Street, NY. Three other HAL employees are travelling with them.2,3
