Jerg (Philip) came from Germany and arrived in Philadelphia on 16 Sep 1748 on the ship Paliena.
NOTE: The ship is probably the Patience (Captain John Brown). There is a list of men with ages (List A, the Captain's List) and a list of foreigners without ages (List C, The signers of the Oath of Abjuration). On the first list is Phillip Filhawer, 24; and on the second Jerg Pilipps Wulhauer. Most likely is that he went by Philip, but in German fashion signed with his full name.
Phillip supposedly had a brother George, who went to Virginia, but it unclear, whether this is true.1,2,3,4
Jurg Phillipp Wulhauer (George Philip Philhower) arrived in Philadelphia from the Netherlands in 1748 and gave Germany as his place of birth. Family tradition relates, he met his bride to be, Ann Maria (Mary) while emigrating to the U.S. After settling in Huntington County, New Jersey, Philip went back to Philadelphia for his bride; they married before 1753. (From: "Genealogy of the Philhower family," by Florence Elizabeth Philhower (Mrs. James M. O'Grady.)5)
His son George moved to Virginia.2 Name variation: George Wuhlhauer.1
