Jacob Heerschap was born in 1870 in Ouddorp, Goeree-Overflakkee, Zuid Holland, The Netherlands.2 He married Dirkje Westhoeve on 1 December 1892 in Ouddorp, Goeree-Overflakkee, Zuid Holland.1,2

His parents were Wouter Heerschap and Klaartje Kasseband.2 Jacob Heerschap and Dirkje Heerschop immigrated on the Veendam, from Rotterdam, arriving in New York on 6 Jan 1893. They are from Oudorp, and are going to Paterson, Passaic County, New Jersey.3,1

Paulus Ruit (49) and Adriani (44), also from Ouddorp, are going to Passaic with 6 children on the same ship as Jacob Heerschap. Adriani is Ariaantje Nuij. She marries Poulus Ruit on 27 May 1870 in Ouddorp. Both her paternal grandmother and her mother are Heerschap, but the relationship with Jacob is not close.4,5
