Samuel Clapp was a miller. He had a grist- and sawmill at the place where the Stockbridge Mills have stood.1
He was a Deputy to the Government of the Plymouth Colony from 1680-1686, and in 1690-1691. Then he was a Representative to the General Court for many years between 1692 and 1715. He was one of the commissioners to settle the borders of Scituate with Marshfield, and with Conihassett.1
