     John was baptized on 7 Nov 1614 at Ripon, North Yorkshire, England.² He married Sarah Walker.^1,3 He died on 27 Jun 1675 in Taunton (during King Phillip's war in an Indian raid). Another account puts his death at 3 Jun 1675 during the same conflict⁴, and was buried in the Tisdale Cemetery at Assonet.⁵

John immigrated b 1636 to the Massachussetts Bay Colony. He settled in Green Harbor.³
     He became a freeman of Duxbury on 7 March 1643, and was appointed constable there on 4 Jun 1645.³
     He moved to Taunton, Plymouth Colony in 1650, and he owned land on the Taunton River (in what is now Berkley). He was twice elected constable (1655, 1659), several times a selectman (1650, 1658, 1672-1675), and Taunton's representative to the Plymouth General Court in 1674. He served on a jury in 1650.³
     Letters of administration of his estate were granted to his four sons John Tisdale Jr., James Tisdale, Joshua Tisdale and Joseph Tisdale.⁴
On 9 Jul 1689 Major William Bradley, son of William Bradley, Esq. deceased, gave a quitclaim deed to the inhabitants of Taunton, Massachusetts. They paid £20.- for it. John Tisdale was listed among the original purchasers.⁶
