William Jasper Blue was born in Indiana, February 1, 1848 and passed away at his daughter Mrs. W.T. Gibbhart's house on August 16, 1926. He enlisted in Co. E. 29th Indiana Infantry in February 1864 and was for a number of years a member of the G.A.R. Post No. 258 at Oakland, Iowa. He was married to Sarah E. Griffith, January 1, 1871 at Chesterton, Indiana. To this union were born one son and five daughters. Besides his children he leaves 39 grandchildren, 48 great-grandchildren, making him at the time of his death 92 living descendants. A service was held at Missouri Valley conducted by Rev. J. O. Carder of the Methodist Church and the body brought to Hancock to the Methodist Church where a service was conducted by Rev. H. P. Grinyer. The music was provided by a quartette consisting of Mr. and Mrs. W. W. Bingham, Mrs. H. P. Grinyer and J. C. Plahn with Mrs. William Deatherage accompanists. The pallbearers were M. A. Griffith, A. S. Bingham, Henry Van Beck, W. J. Dool, Henry Schnackel and Herman Otto. Interment was made at the Hancock cemetery.4
