Joris Jansen Rapalje was born in Valenciennes, France.2 Joris was baptized (St. Nicholas parish) on 28 Apr 1604 at Valenciennes.2 He married (Waals) Catalina Tricot, daughter of Jeronimus Trico and Michele Sauvagie, on 21 Jan 1624 at Amsterdam4,5 (banns (Waals) 13 Jan 1624, Amsterdam.)6,4 He died on 21 Feb 1662 in Brooklyn.7

Joris immigrated on 25 Jan 1623/24 on the 'Eendracht' to New Amsterdam with his wife Catalina.. They sailed from Amsterdam on 25 Jan 1624. They first settled in Fort Orange (now Albany), and in 1626 moved to New Amsterdam.4
On 16 Jun 1637 he bought 335 acres of land from the Indians, in what is now Brooklyn. In 1654 he moved to Wallabout Bay on Long Island (NOTE: where Williamsburg is now. As this is still within present day Brooklyn, I am not sure what the distinction is)1 He was a representative from New Netherland in 1641, and a magistrate of Brooklyn in 1655-57, 60, and 62.1
On 9 Dec 1644 George Rapelje signed a note in favor of Cornelis Maersen for 215 guilders for wheat sold him.8
