     John Tiffany was born on 16 Oct 1747 in Attleboro, Massachusetts.3,1 He married Ruthey Clapp, daughter of John Clapp and Jerusha Bailey, on 28 Mar 1782 at Attleboro, Massachusetts.3,2,4 He died 16 or 17 Jan 1825 in Mount Pleasant Township, Pennsylvania,3, and was buried in the Wheeler Hill Cemetery at Pleasant Mount.5

Other information:
He and Ruthey Clapp moved b 1791 to Mount Pleasant Township, with their children Chandler, John, Fanny and Gardner.6
     He applied for a war pension. His claim was allowed. When he applied, he was 70 yrs old, and resided in Mount Pleasant Township, Wayne County, PA.3
He served in the American revolution. He enlisted in an unknown place , and served under Capt. Caleb Richardson of the Massachusetts Militia.
He enlisted in Feb. 1775 and served to 31 Dec 1775 under Capt. Caleb Richardson and Col. Timothy Walker, Mass. He enlisted on 1 Jan 1776 and served to 31 Dec 1776 as sergeant under Cap. Oliver Pond and Col. Joseph Reed. He was engaged in the battles of Bunker Hill, White Plains and Kingsbridge. He was wounded in the face in the Battle of White Plains.3,7

     Capt. John Tiffany, in February, 1792, was on his way from Attleboro, Mass., to the Nine Partners, Harford townshhip, Susquehanna county, with his wife and children; stopping in Mt. Pleasant township, Wayne Co., Penn., he was so well pleased with the locality that he settled there. His wife was a descendant of the Douglas family of Scotland. They had six children, Chandler, John, Fanny, Gardner, Leonard and Ruth. The many descendants of Capt. John Tiffany are among the most wealthy and enterprising citizens of Mt. Pleasant township. Zachariah and Ezra, sons of John Tiffany, settled in New York. Noah, Hosea and Thomas settled in Susquehanna, Patty married Thomas Wilmarth, Sr., in Massachusetts, and with her children came to Harford township; Esther married Caleb Richardson, one of the Nine Partners of Harford township; and Anna married John Stanley, the father of Dexter Stanley, of Harford.8
