He is the granduncle of my son-in-law, half-brother of his grandfather.<\/p>\n<p>I have written about Rose <a href=\"http:\/\/dutchgenie.net\/wordpress\/2013\/05\/rose-goldman\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">before<\/a>, her story is a sad one. When Jacob&#8217;s father died in 1912 of tuberculosis, the three eldest children spent some time in the Hebrew Orphan Asylum. The remarks on the intake card are<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>No insurance. Man was ill + out of work 18 weeks. Woman lived on<br \/>\n?? &#8211; now exhausted. Woman expects to work. Had no assistance.<br \/>\nUHC has offered rent + 3 per week, but she considered that<br \/>\ninadequate. I have still not been able to find a marriage certificate for Rose and Samuel, or a birth certificate of the half-brother Joseph.<\/p>\n<p>Jacob goes on to marry Lena Medwin, daughter\u00a0 of\u00a0Sam Medwin and Tillie Datoff, in 1929. Nothing more is known about them. Possibly Lena died in 1933, a Lena Edelman of the appropriate age is buried in Montefiore Cemetery (but I have not pursued that yet.) I cannot find Jacob in any census after 1925. While in 1930 Rose&#8217;s other children are still living with her, Jacob is not. Where did he go?<\/p>\n<p>(1) If any one can read the words where I have ??, I would really appreciate it, if you let me know.
