He was the son of Frederik Seijdenzaal and Catharina Elizabeth de Viging/Feige/Fiegen, and he is my husband’s 3rd great-grandfather. His daughter will marry a Broekman. His parents were both German, in their marriage certificate in Amsterdam his father’s place of origin is given as ‘near Erfort’ (probably Erfurt) and his mother’s as ‘Arols’ (prob. now Bad Arolson in Hesse) and they were part of the German Lutheran immigration into the Netherlands.

Some of my husband’s ancestors have been in the Netherlands for a long time, but most came at some point from Germany. Of the 64 end-of-line ancestors of my husband, 46 came from Germany. The rest came, as far as I have been able to determine so far, from the Netherlands. But there are some names, that I just know are not dutch, and I would love to make the connection to their origin.

Pieter Moriau and Susanna Maillaers marry in 1642 in Amsterdam, she is from Leiden, and they are clearly part of the Huguenot refugees, but I do not know where they came from.
Pieter Pieterse Portili, he was born c. 1615, married in (2) Rotterdam, and (3) in Oud-Beijerland in 1652. The name Portili just strikes me as not dutch.
Hendrik Fremantjou and Catharina Copijn have four children in The Hague between 1672 and 1682, his father maybe mentioned in Utrecht as married to Belichgen Hendricx van Hamburch. Their names sound french.
Jan Conrad Jaan in Oosterwijk near Leerdam (his wife was from Bremen). He probably will end up being German, but he was born in Oosterwijk.

Trying to figure out these statistics took me all morning.
