She is my husband&#8217;s 3rd great-grandmother on his mother&#8217;s side. Gudel was jewish, and I found her birth certificate in the WWII file on my mother-in-law (but that is another story)<\/p>\n<p>She married her husband in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/maps\/place\/Kirrweiler,+Germany\/@49.30069,8.110301,12z\/data=!4m5!3m4!1s0x479645c2b4719211:0x422d4d510db6c70!8m2!3d49.3020057!4d8.1660138\">Kirrweiler<\/a>, a town almost 60 km (c. 40 miles) to the west in the Pfalz. I wonder how she met him; it seems like a long distance. On the other hand the marriage was probably arranged, and the Jewish network reached over large distances.<\/p>\n<p>Her husband was a butcher, as was her brother-in-law. Much research remains to be done to get a picture of what life was like in those days.
