The name is found written in several various ways: Debow, Tebow, Thibaut,
Thibout, etc.
In May 1743 John Foreman, agent for the East Jersey Proprietors, met with
"Jacobus Debou, a purchaser from Fauconier of 210 acres of land."
He wished to settle and buy the land from the Proprietors. (From The Minutes
of the Board of Proprietors of the Eastern Division of New Jersey, 1725-1744,
Vol. II, 1960, p. 293.)
Andries Tebow
Andries Tebow (whose surname has been found written: Thybaut, Tiebaut,
Tibout, Thibout, Tebou, Thibou, Tiebout, Tebow, etc.), son of Jan Tibout
& Sarah Vander Vlucht, married Marie (Marretje) DeGrave.
Andries Tebow died before Sep 1705.
Andries Thybaut was the son of Jean Thybaut and Sarah Vander Vlecht. The
family came from Bruges in Flanders, living first on the Delaware; then
New York, Flatbush, Bergen, Harlem and Bushwick. Andries came to Bergen
County before 1686 and married, probably in the French Church, Marie DeGrave.
He purchased on May 14, 1686 from Gawen Lawrie, 261 acres at what is today
River Edge and Paramus, bounded east by the Hackensack River, west by the
Sprout Brook, and partly on the south by present Midland Avenue. He was
then of "Kindockameck" and died late in 1704 or early in 1705,
at which time the land was sold to Abraham Ackerman and by him to Joost
DeBaun.
Andires "Thybaut" (signing his name thus), was one of the witnesses
to the unrecorded will of Samuel Demarest made January 28, 1695/96, and
in 1698 was appointed one of the guardians for the minor children of Jean
Durier (Durie), his neighbor. He removed to New York and joined the Dutch
Church on February 28, 1700. His wife joined May 30th, following.
Andries's widow, Maria DeGrave, married (2) September 8, 1705 at Hackensack,
Albert Terhune, widower of Weyntie Brickers; and (3) September 23,
1709 at Hackensack, Jean Aliee (Alyea), widower of Susanna Lerou.
She moved to Delaware with her third husband and died there.

Peter Tebow
Peter Tebow, son of Andries Thybaut & Marie DeGrave, married (banns
3 March 1716 Hackensack Dutch Reformed Church) Margrietje Reyerse
(Rogers), daughter of Ryer Ryerson & Rebecca Vanderschuer.
Peter Toebow was born at Hackensack, Bergen County, NJ. Margrietje Reyerse
was born in New York City and baptized there in January 1697.
At the time of their marriage both Peter and Margrietje lived at Hackensack.
Pieter and Margrietje were living in the Allendale-Waldwick area by 1737
(road return below).
From -- Bergen County Roads, Book A, p. 10, June 29, 1737: The surveyors
do alter a two rod road which was laid in the year 1733, Nov. 22nd, as follows:
Beginning from the house of Johannis Pillesfelt as the road now goes to
the house of Isaac Boogart; from thence as the road now goes to the line
of Peter Fauconnier and Johannes Tysse's land; thence along said line till
it comes to a small meadow; thence north with a small turn as the trees
are markt till it comes to the said line again and so along the line to
the end of the lott of Johannes Tysse; thence as the road now goes to the
line of Gerrit van Blerkum to a black oak tree to the corner of his fence;
thence from said tree to a black oak stump standing in his clear land; thence
on a straight to where he has planted apple trees; thence southwesterly
along his apple trees by the east side of his house as the Road now goes
to the north side of John Van Blerkum's house along the two rocks; thence
on a west line to the Old Road; thence as the Road now goes to the south
side of the house of Peter Tibow's; from thence as the road now goes till
it comes to the King's Road from Ramapog.

----- (Vol. IV, p. 174)...28 May 1742...Mr. Ashfield called upon John Hoppe
at the Mill, who said that several of the purchasers under Fauconier in
Ramopock had a meeting at the church on the Greate Plaine, and entered into
a bond to stand suit with the Proprietors (and I am well assured that no
jury can be found in Bergen County that will give it in favor of the Proprietors...The
same day I came to Peter De Boye, and he is willing to purchase, but he
is a very poor man, and has thirteen children, and should be considered
as such...

Mrs. Valleaus...she stated what land she wanted: (1) abt. 900 acres where
her son in law Isaiah Valleau lived at Saddle River...(2) all the land that
would answer at the great meadow...(3) all the vacant land at Spaarowbush...(4)
about 300 acres where the widow Akerman lives...(5) 600 acres lying between
Hannes Vanblercum's and John Hopper's...(6) all the vacant land at Massannakus
west of Jacobus Debou's excepting 100 acres which I told her I had promised
to Jannes Ackerman...(7) between John Hoppers Mill and John Traephangels
mill...(8) the vacant land at Yawpock...(9) the vacant land west of Peter
Debou's...then she appointed her son, Theodore Valleau and her son-in-law
Isaiah Valleau to go with me to lay out the land for her....

Hannes Vanblercum how the vacant land lay between him and John Hopper. He
said it also joined to Hannes Vansile, Peter Deboue, John Van Buskirk, Hannes
Traphangle and Urey Westerfelt, and said there was at least 600 acres of
vacant land there...
----- (Vol. II, p. 363)...18 June 1744...the following persons agreed to pay £20
pr 100 acres for land which they claimed under Fauconier title... Peter Debow
for 200 acres...
----- (Vol. III, p. 10)...14 March 1745...Alexander as Surveyor General
axamined the returns of the surveys made at Romopock by Mr. Forman and Mr.
Stelle and they are these: ....Peter Tibbow, 308 acres...
----- (Vol. III, p. 323)...17 August 1758...lease for land at Romopock executed,
No. 207 to Peter Tebow of 140.88 acres at £0.15.0 York money pr ann. for 3 years
from 24th March last.
----- (Vol. IV, p. 317)...12 April 1786...On 10 January last, Peter Lebow
bought 94 acres at 4-1/2 Dollars. [P.A.W. note: this item may refer to a
Peter Labagh. Labagh was another early surname represented in the Ramapo
Tract.]

Dutch Church, who married Gerrebrugh -?-. The following information probably

Ryer Tebow
Ryer Tebow, son of Peter Tebow and Margaret Ryerse, married 24 Oct
1746 Hackensack Reformed Church, Abigail DeBaun, daughter of James
DeBaun & Anna Canniff. His given name is also found written Roger ,
and his surname has been found written Tebow, Thibout, and Tibouw.
Ryer was baptized 15 Mar 1724 Hackensack Reformed Church. Abigail was baptized
1 Jan 1727 Hackensack Reformed Church. In the marriage record they are "Reyer
Tibouw, y.m., b. and l. Peremus, and Abigael DeBaan, y.d., b. Hackinsack,
l. Peremus."
